So usualy, for the rest of the world and myself, Shakedown marks the end of the contest season or so I thought. I would have to endure another contest of screaming drunk crazy snowboard lovers and one more after contest massive hang over.
Last week I was planning to go to Tahoe as I normaly do after the qc season ends, but I got into the slopestyle grand opening for the telus festival in Whistler. So I said fuck it, i will go to whis, cause I do like money. Any way I sorta tried to sort my life out back home in QC but did not do too well at that pretty much just boxed up my shit and threw it into a storage container and hopped on a flight. Of course it was raining in Vancouver as always but in whis snowing in mid april to add to the million tons of white stuff they already got.
Anyways I met up with Jeremy Cloutier and Charles Reid. Charles was taking the night off cause he was tired from landing double 720’s in idaho. So it was up to Jere and I to save the world. The course had a huge hip a bunch of rails, and a small jump, 1 circus giraffe, 1 circus elephant, and 3 circus monkeys, oh and a nice circus clown and a huge crowd of like 15,000 drunk people rocking out to swollen members and trouble andrew.
Jere missed finals but managed to pick up 500$ for best trip on the oakley jib, so the boys were a head and the chicken could eat chicken food, but pretty much killed the rails 10 times more than any one, but ethan diess was pretty sick too, but he is not a chicken. I made finals and in finals it was 3 runs combined. I landed my 3 runs runs and ended up 2nd after Craig bowlu and backcountry tech guy mikey pederson got 3rd. Oh plus I gave the dingo high five, lol.
any way that circus contest made me feel like i want to live in the circus.
any way in whis for a bit filming with jere chicken and charles
peace and love
never stop the party
Le Mont Saint-Sauveur a aujourd’hui fini les installations pour le Ride Shakedown, voici donc de quoi aura l’aire notre party de bureau cette année.

Hello boys, girls, chickens, beavers, and other farm animals I like
Its been a very good past week indeed. After leaving the Euro Shakedown in Germany, I headed to Whis to ride but it rained all week… but you know what that means? pow in the alpine, so pretty much rode pow all week getting face shots for days. About wendsday last week my homie Jere Cloutier gave me a call and send he was thinking of heading down to Seattle for Shakedown USA. So we decided to rent a car but of course fully ensure that thing cause we were going to drive the hell out of that thing (cause as you well may know I like to crash cars). Any way picked up Jere at the airport Thursday in Vancouver and we headed down to Seattle with the sun roof down and the gansta rap blaring.
Friday was the amateur quali so we went over to the Snowqualmie park and rode the huge slush in the amazing park and warmed up for the rail jam.
The rail jam starts and so does the huge amount of snow, it just started to puke, but that was nothing for Jere as he is a rail master and just killed it every time he hit the rail with all sorts of tech tricks. As for myself I was just doing the rail jam for some practice for the main event, but actualy ended up making finals. So jere and I both made finals which was amazing and got even better as Jere got 1st and I got 2nd which we could not ask for more. In finals it is two best of three runs Jere landed gap 50/50 front 3 out and gap front 180 switch back 3 out. I landed switch 50/50 through the kink and 50/50 front 3 out. so pretty much things were going pretty good and it was only thr 1st day.
This is already getting way too long so I will keep this short for the main event. Jere and I both made finals. I ended up 1st with a front 12 and switch 50/50 through the kink and combined with a switch back rodeo 7 and half cab on the down rail. I still can not believe I landed that 12 and that 50/50 run. Unfortunaly Jere did not make finals but he landed a switch back 9 to gap 50/50 front 3 out and super mega props for trying switch back 10 double almost landing. Other guys who killed it was Eman who was probably the most stylish rider of the weekend for sure, Zach stone, Jordan phillips, and charlie sheen.
All and all one hell of an amazing weekend that comprized of homies, pow, sun, cash money, and gambling in a indian casino. Oh ya the after party was in an indian casino and let me tell you soemthing if i did not know better I would say that they wanted our cash.lol
any way in Whis all week with chicken and then to Grouse for the showdown over the city.
thanks to everyone
peace matts

So last weekend I flew to Germany for the weekend.lol For the first ever European Shakedown in Garmisch, Germany.
This was a hard decision for me as it was the first Us open I have not done in like 7 years, but fuck it went any way.
The whole trip pretty much went perfect. I got a whole aisle to myself of the plane and was able to catch the train right away from Innsbruck to Garmisch.
My hotle was so exspensive but was pretty baller with a view of the set up and the whole olympic stadium. The Contest was in the olympic staduim for the 1937 winter olympic games, which was pretty cool to have it in something that old. The ski jumping jumps were huge and to be honest wish i could have seen those ski guys jump, but what ever I was there for Shakedown not to watch flying skiers.
Anyways I qualified 4th with a front 9 and a half cab on the down rail.
For the finals there is a new format where you have 3 jumps and it is your best 2 combined, the thing that makes it hard is that you have to call your jump and rail. Which is even harder for me as every rail trick i do is an accident.lol
I ended up 2nd in the finals with a front 12 late cork to a half cab on the down combined with a cab 9 to a front 1 half cab out on the flat rail. To be honest how I landed that cab 9 I have no idea as it was huge, but it worked out prefect and the dream continues.
After that I had to jump on a train right away to catch my flight To Whis. Not the best planning on my part but made it perfect.
Anyway I’m in Whis all week and in Seattle next weekend for the USA Shakedown.
wish me luck
peace matts

Hello all you little children of the world.
Guillaume keeps bugging me to up date these things, so I will do it and I will do it hard!!!!!!!!!!
It’s been a busy 2 months, but I guess this journey begins in December when Guillaume texts me “man!!! Could I go for a road trip to Cali”. Well I’m always down for a road trip to Cali so I came home for X-Mas for a week and we got in my shitty car Bob and started to drive to Cali.
I do not know how you guys drive to Cali, but when Guillaume and I drive to Cali we do it pretty randomly. We started news year’s eve, we drove like 12 hours to Cleveland, where we arrived just in time for new years, but let me tell you, now I know why so many rappers come from Cleveland. Any we found the sketchiest place we could in Ohio and set up camp. The next day we woke up to pouring rain which is perfect as we were getting greasy and needed a shower. Any way the rest of the trip was pretty uneventful until we got to St. Louis, Missouri. Here we found out that the current state of the American economy is reflected in all the abandoned neighborhoods. After that I put the pedal to the floor and sent it to Tahoe.
I would get into the detail of how much we were living the dream in Tahoe but just check out the snow-show.ca for the Tahoe edition.
The trip got really interesting when we randomly decided to drive to mammoth. We got there to pure sun, hoody weather, and the nicest jump/ park pretty much in the world. And man do I love to jump. The only thing that went wrong was the fact that a crashed bob the silver car car rhino silver car into a couple snow banks, but no harm done as you can always fix your car with gorilla tape, any way check out snow-show.ca for the mammoth episode. After that we returned to Tahoe for a couple more days of shred. Guillaume had to bounce back to QC for work or something like to fly his paramotor.
Any way from there I drove to Colorado and rode Breck for ten days, and it pretty much snowed for like 10 days straight, so pretty much got face shots for days, but do not take my word for it check out this.
From Breck I headed to Denver where I did the world cup big air and well let’s just say a pretty much front double 10 straight to my face.lol
After Denver I drove up to Calgary for the canadian open, where I saw way more cow boys than podiums, pretty much fell both my runs. Around this time I was getting pretty tired of driving around every where alone and my brain was turning into scrambled eggs. So I sent it one last time from Calgary back to Qc. And well pretty much hit the biggest snow storm ever in Saskatchewan, but made it through it was around Ontario when I started to lose it by talking to myself, but after 3500km alone made it to Montréal and fell asleep for days.
As you can imagine by now the credit card was getting racked up and the bank account low, so I needed a quick refuel of funds so the dream would continue, So I headed to Tremblant for the you look good slope a 3 star ttr, and I ended 1st and won some cool cash money. The podium was even sweater as 2nd and 3rd were my homies Julien Beaulieu and Simon Reid, plus Alex Sarazin was there and he is always pretty funny.
Any way spent the next week riding around the Laurentians and all that fun stuff.
Last weekend Guillaume and I packed up Flipper car once again and headed to QC City for the Snowboard Jamboree. We arrived in the rain at Stoneham to check out the pipe, but ended up jibbing in the park more than any thing else. We able to crash at the Billabong room at the Hilton, and Guillaume would like to thank Billabong for crashing there.lol Any way the next day was the big air and well it rained the night before and then turned to -10 over night. So kids here is you science lesson for today water freezes at below zero. Any way long story short, it was the iciest sketchiest thing ever. I Still managed to end up 2nd with a front 10 and switch back rodeo 9 behind seb toots, which pretty much is the story of my life. From there went to the rail jam, but decided to drink my Champaign instead and watch the boys kill it. Frank April won overall and frank bourgeois ended up with best trick. Now the real fun starts. All the boys head to the fashion jam for the party were everyone lost it and lost it hard. Thank you to all the boys for being the boys.

Yesterday, February 19, 2011 was absolutely insane.
For the past few years, beautiful Quebec city has been host of the snowboard Jamboree, an event like no other for the East Coast. The city puts together an amazing setup around the downtown area every year — an enormous big air jump right between two bridges, supported by thousands of feet of scaffolding, and a street-style setup for the Stairmasters jib competition which is held right after the big air finals.
This years big air was gnarlier than ever — after a few days of rain and warm weather, the thermometer dipped below -10 and Quebec froze over. It was literraly a skating rink all over town, including the run-in, take off, and landing of the jump. Poor boys. After a few solid bails, some of the world’s best jumpers started sending the usual backside 10 double corks, frontside 10’s, all that good stuff. Seb Toots greased another Tootsie roll for his 125th victory this season and my boy Matts Kulisek stomped a switch backside rodeo 9, claiming second place. CHYah mannn !!!!
The real madness began right after the big air show though. The crowd (probably around 2-3000 people?!!) migrated to the Stairmaster setup, which I will describe as best as I can here:
A drop in ramp about 60 feet in the air, made of pure ice, followed by a long & high tube rail the finishes in a few options, all of them equally deadly: either face-first into a wall if you get off too early, or into a wall ride if you make it to the end, or into a little ice tranny on the right side. Another, maybe more interesting option, was the elbow to the left, which Im claiming Frank Bourgeois nailed the cleanest trick on, with a flawless noseblunt bagel out. Imagine all of this, surrounded by a nice landing of sheer ice. Viva le Quebec!!
After fatass Sarrazin broke part of the drop in, things got even sketchier. Just getting to the rail was a suicide mission. I somehow made it to the finals doing only noseblunts (which I neeeevvver do, by the way…), along with the homies Dofin, Simon Reid, Frank April, Young Jay and a few others. Cloutier ( “la Caille”) got raped by the wall, which actually ripped his boxers and caused some bleeding in and around his ass. hahah !!!
April took first place, earning a nice 5000$ (or “cinq mille liiiiassssse” as he would say), and Dofin earning second somehow (no $$ though). Nice comeback for the homie, who hadn’t done a contest for 3 years !
Here are some Iph shots of the setup. Definitely not a setup for pussies.
